Fighting over me?

Just a quick update. We arrived in Puerto Cortes Honduras yesterday by boat from Belize. Needless to say the boat ride was beautiful but the whole process was on latino time and stops moved pretty slow. Arriving in the Honduras, it was the typical scene in which taxi drivers and money changers charge at travellers getting off their bus or boat, each one talking fast and trying to get as much money from you as possible. We were going in a different direction than the other travellers and so we were on our own to find a taxi. Further we had to calucuate conversions in our head (18 lempiras to the dollar - not the easiest conversion). One guy quoted James a price. Then another guy came up and was very aggressive not agreeing on a price but basically pushing us to go with him. Just as we felt pressured enough to go with this guy, the first guy got pissed at him and started yelling at him. This is when it got interesting. The second guy walked over and punched the first guy in the head and then an all out fist fight broke out. After quite a few punches had been thrown, a woman stepped in and broke it up (thank god for women). While all this was going on we turned to another cab driver who gave us an even cheaper price and a local advised we take it and get out of there. It was crazy! We finally got on a bus, got to San Pedro Sula and downed a few beer. We wanted to get to Tegucigalpa but that was not happening yesterday.

Upon reflection the whole thing was stupid on our part. These men were fighting over $5 american. I can´t believe we were negotiating over 25 or 50 cents. It was a nice reminder to us about how the rest of the world lives.

We plan to take a bus to Tegucigalpa today and fly out on Monday. (Just so our moms know where we are).

Good Morning!

Thanks for the update. We particularly loved the picture of James on the shore - beautiful, relaxing shot!

We were glad to hear that you were able to visit with some friends. A "little piece of home" or has home now become the place where you lay your head each night .... hmmmm

Katie is heading to an Andy Warhol gala at the MacKenzie on the 26th - she ordered a vintage dress, online - waiting for it to arrive from California. She and her friends are going to dress like the characters in Factory Girl. She will be 18th on the 19th - a few more months and then she will be making some decisions about next year.

Glenn and I went to the final gallery day of the Joe Fafard show. It was like a visit to the barns at the Estevan Fair - pretty fantastic. Glenn was particularly intrigued by the clean welds and the lazer cuts.

City police have done a restructing of their division We now have three districts - north, south and new to the city "central".

We went to a Regina Pats game, last night. They brought in 6 new players with the hopes of winning the Memorial Cup. Canada just took the World Junior Hockey Championship, last weekend.
Kent Austin interviwed, this week, with Ole Miss - waiting to hear if he will be making a move. He spent his college days as a QB, there.

For Christmas, Glenn got me XM Satellite radio - it is for our bike trips - but we have been grooving to the 60's (Glenn's favourite) and 70's - non-stop! It is nice to turn off 92.1/Z99/WOLF!

It sounds as though the two of you are feeling well, again. That's a relief.

Take care and thanks for keeping in touch!
