accidents happen...

Hey everyone,

We arrived in Mazatlan Mexico yesterday and plan to be here for a few days. We are staying in a cute (but hot) hotel 2 blocks from the beach for $13 a night. pretty sweet deal. The last week in Mexico has been fun, but also very tiring and very hot. I am guessing James says either, I am hot or it is hot, about 45 plus times a day. Driving in the car with no air conditioning is unbelievably scortching - james even sunburned his arm and chest in tiger stripes from hanging out the window! We are definitely having to pull all our spanish vocabulary (which is pretty slim) from the bank and are just bumbling along.

After leaving Guaymas we moved on to Los Mochis for a couple of nights. We caught the train from Los Mochis to head to the Copper Canyon and the town of Creel. Thankfully we were staying at a friendly hotel, as we missed our taxi (due to poor spanish) and the owner had to drive us to the station in his broken down car at 6:00 am.

The Copper Canyon train ride was very beautiful and scenic. We watched the sun rise and set from the train. Although we only saw the actual Copper Canyon for about 20 min, we did have an opportunity to explore the valley area on rented bikes. Creel was an interesting mix of town locals, tourists and the aboriginal people of the region in traditional dress. Unfortunately James was feeling under the weather and could not stray too far from the bathroom - although he was a trooper and went out biking with me. He has been turned off of meat and tortillas for 4 days now.

Now for the bad news, as you can see, we do not have any pictures posted on this blog entry .... James made a big mistake while we were riding the train and deleted all of our pictures from day 1 of the trip to present (and we were just saying, we really need to save these in another location). We are trying to remain optomistic that although James reformated the card, we may be able to retrieve some of the images. Fingers crossed! So no pics of the copper canyon, but we will try to post some pics with our next entry of some new things we see : )

Hope all is well.

I hope you picked up some Pepto and Ciproflaxen before you crossed the border! It saved our lives a few time in South America.

Not to worry about the pics....your writing is descriptive! I see James as a Tony the Tiger "on the run"!

Take care...
